Apologies to everyone who phoned or bid on eBay for the ‘furry boot’ Ezee Torq. Selling the bike without a battery began to feel a bit daft, and when I strung a small battery on the rack and fired it up after almost a decade, nostalgia swept back and we withdrew it from sale. What a cracking machine this prototype still is! Ultra-high gearing, 9-speed derailleur, whisper-quiet power-assistance and 23mph on a good day. Proof, if proof be needed, that the UK could do with a Sport Pedelec class. This really is a great way to commute, and in many ways, safer than a normal bike. But don’t hold your breath – the DfT still hasn’t decided whether to go with 200- or 250-watt motors, let alone getting to grips with anything more complex.
