In A to B 27:
- Icons: The IC125 High Speed Train
- Long-term Test: Birdy Red
- The Trial: Panasonic Porta-Ranger
- The Trial: Giant LafreeĀ (A to B APPROVED)
December 2001. Two much-loved icons in this issue: the Inter-city 125 High Speed Train, and the Giant Lafree Twist. They couldn’t be more different, one carrying 500 passengers 500 miles at 125mph, and the other a single person 25 miles at 15mph, but both broke new ground in very different ways. Both have oodles of the mysterious ‘IT’ factor too. Elsewhere we kept readers updated on the Birdy Red, which was never a big problem, but it somehow never quite ‘hit the spot’ either, and the same goes for the Panasonic Porta-Ranger. Both machines were enthusiastically received in their home territories, but didn’t suit British conditions. A lesson there.
